Tom McClay launches NRG Controls in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. His original focus is on delivering high-quality Automatic Temperature Control systems. The company quickly earns a reputation for technical expertise and responsive customer service.

1993 — Service Becomes a Differentiator

NRG Controls expands into predictive and preventative maintenance services, establishing a service-first philosophy that strengthens long-term customer partnerships.

2005 — Expanding Regional Reach

Brian Scandle establishes NRG Controls North. NRG Controls North extends the company’s presence into central and northeastern Pennsylvania, increasing its service offerings, reach, and capacity.

2006 — Entering Security Solutions

NRG Controls North launches its Security Solutions division, beginning with card access systems and later expanding to include CCTV and integrated security technologies.

2008 — New Ownership, Broader Vision

Steve Bernas, Tom Dunleavy, Jay Franklin, and John Leedy acquire the Harrisburg division. This acquisition accelerates NRG Control’s overall growth and expands the company’s focus beyond traditional controls. NRG Control begins offering comprehensive building automation solutions.

2009 — Advancing Energy Innovation

NRG Controls launches its Energy Star Services Division and partners with Encelium to deliver advanced lighting control solutions, expanding its integrated technology portfolio.

2021 –  Merger with Integrated Systems Solutions

NRG Controls North acquires Integrated Systems Solutions (ISS), led by Jim Ready and Tony Brum. This successful transaction brings diversity to our pool of experts, introducing talented new team members to our crew. In addition, this move expands NRG North’s customer base and broadens the company’s product portfolio.

2010-2023 — Two Decades of Growth

Both NRG Controls and NRG Controls North grow in technical depth, service capacity, and regional reach. This increased capacity strengthens our reputation as trusted building automation partners for all of Pennsylvania, the Mid-Atlantic, and the eastern seaboard.

2022 — Expanding Life Safety Services

NRG Controls North adds Fire Alarm and Life Safety services, further strengthening its ability to deliver fully integrated building system solutions.

Early 2024 — Expansion into the Southeast

NRG Control launches a greenfield startup in Nashville, Tennessee, marking the company’s first geographic expansion beyond its traditional Mid-Atlantic footprint.

October 2024 — Reunited as ONE COMPANY

NRG Controls and NRG Controls North reunite as a single organization through an acquisition by Fort Point Capital. The combination of resources creates a unified platform for future growth. Former principals Tom Dunleavy, Jay Franklin, and Jim Ready remain involved to help guide the transition.

February 2025 — New CEO Leadership

Dave Sholtis joins as Chief Executive Officer, bringing experienced leadership and a clear vision for the company’s next phase of expansion.

February 2026 — Strategic Growth Accelerates

NRG Controls acquires NexGen Automation, its first strategic operating company acquisition under Fort Point ownership. This critical acquisition strengthens our technical capabilities and increases our regional service capacity.

Today — 50 Years Strong!

With more than 150 professionals serving customers across the
Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, NRG Controls celebrates its 50^th Anniversary and continues to deliver integrated smart building solutions that improve performance, efficiency, and comfort.
